ADOPTION COSTS IN ENGLAND Help Group preparing for adoption - 300£ for both applicants Home study - 5400£ Medical checks – 70£ for each applicant - 140£ Notarization – about 2500£ for the whole adoption process Apostille - 27£ for each (average 1500£ for the adoption process) Sending of documents to Russia - 20£ each time – average 100£ Visas for applicants to Russia - 150£ for each one - 300£ Entrance visa for the adopted child – 600£ Post placement reports - 250£ for each report (including notarization and sending to Russia) - 1000£ for 4 reports Readoption in England – court fee - 160£ (we didn’t use a lawyer – some people do and it costs 1500 – 2000) International fee - 10000£ (including donations, facilitators, translations of documents, notarizations, interpreters, courts fee, car drivers in regions) Approximately: 22900£ Non-include in International fee: (flights, hotels, meals, drivers in Moscow, medical checks of the child) Total average costs: 30000£ (55000-60000$) MATERNITY LEAVE IS ONE YEAR - 39 weeks paid and rest unpaid - but your job must be given back to you at the end, if you want it.  ADOPTION leave is the same, the only difference is that self employed people cannot get it (pregnant self employed people will get it)   The payment is from the government - but some jobs will give you more than the basic amount.  The basic amount is either £117.18 per week, or 80% of your average earnings if they are less than that.    Some employers will give you all your pay like normal for 3 months, then half your pay, and so on, obviously normal pay is more than £440 per month for many people.  They will pay for the additional part of it.   There is no adoption tax credit like USA, but there are tax credits for children in your family.  However, you have to be quite poor to get them, if you are on the average wage, unless you have a lot of children, you will not qualify, or the benefit is just a few hundred pounds, not really significant.  Also, every child in the UK will get weekly child benefit - now it is about £20 per week for first child and less for next one.  Adopted or birth child same. There are also benefits to help with childcare when the children are ready to go to nursery, or childcare, when they are 3 years plus.   Also, every child gets £250 when born, or adopted, and then again when they are older they get another £250 which must go to special saving account to be saved till they are 18.
