Statement to The Israeli Knesset
Via Scriptwriters Guild of Israel
International Affiliation of Writers Guilds (IAWG) Letter of Support
The shift towards the distribution of audio-visual programs via online platforms has significantly changed
the traditional film and television landscape.
While consumers have better access to content from all around the world, the same content is flooding
local markets, threatening to drown local creative voices and silence local stories. These voices and
stories create a legacy, bring people together and strengthen heritage and diversity.
The International Affiliation of Writers Guilds (IAWG), representing a global community of creators and
storytellers who face the same challenges to our own local voices and heritage, encourages the Israeli
government to confront this content creation and distribution shift head-on. Some of our governments
have already enacted, or tabled, legislation to regulate OTT services, implemented local content quotas
and/or funding requirements for the major international streamers. We would be happy to provide a
summary of such initiatives, should it be helpful to your current, important, efforts to develop a made-in-
Israel solution.
Respectfully,
Thomas McLaughlin
